Grand Opening Hampton Inn and Suites

Last night we celebrated the grand opening of our newest Preferred Hotel Partner, the Hampton Inn and Suites Savannah Midtown!  It was a great event with fabulous food and entertainment.  Our Executive Chef, Chris Chalmers and his staff cooked up all of the savories and Paul Kennedy Catering provided a yummy chocolate fountain which of course was a HUGE hit!  The Equinox Jazz Orchestra provided music all evening and Teresa Earnest of Memories n More Photography photographed the event.

Were you there?  You may find yourself in some of the photos.  Here are a few.  You can find more on our Facebook page later today.

Thanks to all of our sponsors for donating the raffle items.  They were a big hit!

President Obama Visits Savannah!!

The President visited Savannah today.  His first stop was Savannah Tech where he addressed a select group of students and community leaders.  It just so happens that Savannah Tech is right across the street from the Hampton Inn and Suites Savannah Midtown and the Hilton Garden Inn Savannah Midtown.  So what did I do?  I perched myself at the top of the parking deck to see what I could see.  Of course there were protesters and demonstrators, but no one got out of hand….well that was until one person got excited and bolted across the street toward the college until the police and secret service stopped her.  You can see that in the video below.  My brother-in-law just happened to be in the crowd and captured video of the President arriving and the excited citizen.

I have no idea what is in this truck, but it looks serious.

There were some interesting signs on display.

...and some interesting characters.

Gina, Johanna, Anna-Marie, and Amanda braved the cold with me to catch a peek at the President!

Rick, the Chief Engineer and Kim, the Accounting Coordinator for the hotels were a floor below my perch on the parking deck.

That's the President's limo. I only know this because a guest said they showed him get into the second limo on the news.

We ate lunch and watched the President address the group at Savannah Tech live on TV.

Snow Day Pictures

So it really did snow on Friday night.  We actually got enough to play in at my house.  My husband got in a snowball fight with the neighborhood kids.  I stayed out of the fight and just photographed it for blogging purposes…and because it may never happen again.  I was 7 the last time it snowed like this in Georgia.  My husband and son built a tiny snowman on our truck then realized there was enough to build a real one.  We also took the lid off a Rubbermaid container to use as a sled, except our yard has no hills, so Mike pushed Ashton around with a shop broom.  Enjoy the pics!

So today is supposed to be a snow day…

We shall see. Everyone is forecasting 1 to 3 inches of snow in the Savannah area. I live in a suburb a little west of Savannah and I am supposed to get 3-5 inches. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. The last measurable snowfall was .2 inches in 1996 and we had several inches in 1989. Most people around here are a little beside themselves. I am not, however, looking forward to driving home in the mess. I expect it to be a little crazy as no one is used to driving in those conditions around here. I promise pictures to prove it next week if it happens.

I LOVE Valentine’s Day!

I always have.  I can’t help it.  It just feels like there is some sort of electricity in the air.  And it doesn’t hurt that now that I am married, we have a good reason to schedule a date night minus the little one. :)  Savannah is an amazing place to celebrate Valentine’s Day.  It is such a romantic city and there are some great places to have a quiet dinner with your sweetie.   We had someone to watch the little one one night last week so we decided to have our Valentine’s dinner early and went to The Melting Pot.  It was FANTASTIC!  We had a private table, the food was excellent, and the service was great!  If you haven’t been, you have to check it out!  It is an experience.

If you are planning on being in Savannah for Valentine’s Day and are looking for romantic ideas, why not renew your wedding vows at Tie the Knot on Tybee or at the City Market vow renewal ceremony?  If you are the spontaneous type and decide to get married while you are here (Savannah tends to have an effect on people) you can also get married at Tie the Knot on Tybee or the Davenport House.  For more information, click here.  There are links and contact phone numbers for each event.

In these tough economic times, so many people are looking for less expensive, but still romantic ways to celebrate. How about an indoor picnic and a movie? I came across a list this morning thanks to WeddingWire on Facebook of the top 30 Romantic Movies for Valentine’s Day according to Better Homes and Gardens. Check it out!

What are you doing for Valentine’s Day? ♥ ♥

Welcome!

Thanks for stopping by to read my first blog……EVER! I have to say I am a bit nervous. Performance anxiety is normal when doing something for the first time, right? Maybe I should start by telling you a little bit about what you can expect to find when you visit…and I hope you will visit frequently. :-)

We’ll have specials that only blog readers will be eligible for, chatter about events and fun things to do in Savannah, behind the scenes information from our preferred partners, and there may even be a guest blogger from time to time. But most importantly, I want you to find exactly what you are looking for, so if there is something you would like to see or have more information on, please let me know.
