River Street

That’s right bacon lovers, we said it…BACON FEST is coming to River Street! The inaugural event will take place on September 5 & 6 during September First Friday & Saturday weekend! Get ready because select local restaurants will be serving up their mouthwatering bacon creations all weekend long!

“The Savannah Waterfront Association is so passionate about bacon; we feel it deserves its own festival. It’s going to be a weekend full of fun and amazing food all celebrating bacon, the candy of meat, said Carrie Bligh, Executive Director of the SWA. The festival staff members are not the only ones excited about this new event. "I'm so excited that the SWA is putting on an entire festival devoted to BACON…I mean all of the best foods come wrapped in bacon; the same is absolutely true of festivals,” said Amy Brock, Social Media Manager for Visit Savannah. "I'm also looking forward to trying what our Savannah chefs will be offering! With so many creative ways to serve bacon, I know it will be a lot of fun for them to prepare and for us all to enjoy,” Brock continued.

This food-inspired event is not just the talk of the town, tourists looking for one last summer trip have also heard about Savannah’s newest sensation! “I’ve got just one word for those making their travel plans: Bacon. Bacon is just one more reason, and perhaps the best reason, to make sure Savannah is your destination for the summer,” said Michael T. Owens, President/CEO of the Tourism Leadership Council.

So what’s on the menu (besides the obvious ingredient)? Here are some teasers but you will have to come down to sample the rest: candied bacon, “bacon & eggs” (a chocolate egg with bacon), bacon popcorn, applewood smoked bacon brownies, pork belly lollypops, and smoked bacon wrapped jalapenos. The following restaurants will be dishing out their creations for bacon enthusiasts to enjoy: Andaz Savannah, Baked by Rach, Bayou Café, Bub-Ba-Q, Chocolat by Adam Turoni, Crystal Beer Parlor, Short N Sweet, The Naked Dog/Repicci’s Italian Ice, Top Deck at Cotton Sail, Wet Willies and Wild Wing Café.

Bacon Fest will kick-off on Friday, September 5 from 4-10pm with First Friday fireworks presented by Wet Willie’s Savannah at 9:30pm. The festivities will continue on Saturday, September 6 from 10am-10pm. Regional artisans will be set up along Rousakis Plaza displaying a variety of handmade works for bacon lovers and festival goers to browse through.

This event is hosted by the Savannah Waterfront Association and proudly sponsored by Wet Willie’s, Hormel Black Label Bacon, Capital A Productions, Savannah Coca-Cola, WJCL-abc, WTGS-Fox, and Alpha Media. For more information Bacon Fest visit riverstreetsavannah.com.

Playboy magazine calls Jack Reacher, the hero of bestselling author Lee Child's 18 thrillers, "one part Shane, one part Phillip Marlowe, and one part Rambo-if Rambo were liberal." In Reacher, a drifting ex-military police officer with a noble sense of justice, the British-born Child has drawn a complex character with the sleuthing skills of Sherlock Holmes and the violent tendencies of America's Wild West.

Reacher came to life for Child following the abrupt end of a successful run producing for British television—a career that included the beloved Brideshead Revisited and Prime Suspect. At the age of 40, Child picked up a pen and paper and wrote The Killing Floor, his first novel that introduced the big, brazen, stoic and thoughtful Jack Reacher to worldwide audiences. Since his debut in 1997, Child has more than 60 million copies of his books in print, and they have been translated into more than 40 languages. In 2012, his hero was projected onto the big screen in the Paramount Film Jack Reacher, starring Tom Cruise. In his latest book, Personal, which goes on sale September 2nd. Reacher tracks down the person who shot at the French President.

Now, the Savannah Book Festival brings Lee Child to Georgia's First City for the first time...
