Local Marriage License Information
Identification
All applicants must present a positive I.D. This may be either a driver's license, a certified copy of a birth certificate, a military I.D., a passport, or a State I.D. card. Not acceptable are social security cards, insurance cards, credit cards, work or school I.D. cards.
Fees
If the applicants have completed premarital education pursuant to Code Section 19-3-30.1 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated that included at least six hours of instruction, the charge will be $16.00. The certificate and/or form must have an original signature and notarized stating the couple have completed the course. This information has to be on the letterhead or certificate when applying for the marriage license. Marriage License must be obtained within 12 months of date of application. If the applicants have not completed premarital education, the charge will be $51.00.
Probate Court Hours
The Chatham County Probate Court issues marriage licenses from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except holidays.
