If you’re like me, you spend more time texting your girlfriends than actually seeing them. And even though emojis have come a long way, there’s nothing as good as some in-person quality time with those who know you best! So open that day planner and set the date ‘cause it’s time to get the heck out of dodge and venture to Savannah with the girls!

First, you need an amazing place to stay and in downtown Savannah, accommodations abound. When you walk into the DoubleTree Hotel Savannah Historic District you might think you’ve stepped into a swanky Manhattan hotel – and the feeling doesn’t stop there. The hotel recently completed a $5.5 million renovation and will surround you in modern luxury. And then there’s Homewood Suites Savannah Historic District/Riverfront, located in downtown Savannah directly on River Street, featuring a resort-style rooftop with a heated pool, full-service bar and menu offerings, fire pit and more – all reserved for guests only. And though you could spend your entire weekend up on the roof, we promise, there’s plenty more to see and do!

You’re gonna need to eat and drink while you’re here, right? But the last thing you want to do is eat a huge meal and then feel so stuffed you don’t want to do much else. If you agree, then whatdoyasay we make this trip all about tastin’ and toastin’ – some appetizers here, a few sips there and before you know it, you’re having a great time, no stretch pants required.

This particular tastin’ and toastin’ extravaganza starts at Ghost Coast Distillery, located “under the bridge” in downtown Savannah on Indian Street. Ghost Coast is the city’s first and only distillery since Prohibition and offers 20 different spirits to properly kick off your weekend. They also offer a free behind-the-scenes tour that will land you in the heart of the distillery’s cocktail room.

“If you can’t decide on just one from our extensive list of unique spirits and handcrafted cocktails, you can choose a flight,” explained marketing coordinator Kaitlynn Whittaker. “I would recommend trying our Tiki-Spiced Rum made with nine different spices or our Honey Flavored Whiskey made with local Savannah honey.” Ghost Coast even offers a cocktail class that will teach you how to make some of their most popular cocktails.

You’re going to do some toastin’ at Ghost Coast but what about tastin’ some food? We suggest heading over to Treylor Park on Bay Street where you can keep the laid-back vibe going in their outdoor beer garden. It’s like the backyard you wish you had – twinkly lights strung overhead, cold craft been on tap and fellow ‘neighbors’ gathered ‘round to add to the lively atmosphere. Add in some shared plates of avocado fries, chili hummus or Treylor’s epic tacos and you’ll enjoy the perfect mix of good-for-you fare prepared in a way that’s borderline cheat night.

Of course, if you want a little less backyard and a little more uptown, then you absolutely have to visit the bar at The Grey. Located on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in downtown Savannah, The Grey has earned more “best restaurant” awards than can be listed here and has been featured in Food & Wine, Time, New York Times and even CBS This Morning to name a few. And while The Grey’s food is exceptional, the bar is an experience all its own (and also among the 21 best bars in America 2018 as deemed by Esquire Magazine). The Diner Bar, as it’s called, gives new meaning to the bar term “flight” with its worldly collection of rums, gins, vodkas and so much more. You’ll feel like a seasoned traveler without ever having to leave your perch at the bar. While you’re there, make sure to sample some bar bites as well!

Last, but by no means least, dessert! Sometimes, a name says it all: Better Than Sex – A Dessert Restaurant. What began in Key West, Florida as a wife making an Oreo layer cake for her husband has today turned into a sweet restaurant franchise with its first franchise location being right here in Savannah (lucky you).

“From the menu names, descriptions and server interactions – everything is kittenish and full of sexual puns,” said Lindsey Haemmerle, co-owner and general manager. “If you’re open-minded, you’ll enjoy this experience.”

Among their must-try desserts, Lindsey recommends the Blueberry Birthday Suit, featuring fresh blueberries, blueberry compote, Belgian white chocolate and brie cheese sandwiched between buttered cinnamon sugar Texas toast and served with a side of strawberry champagne soup (say that 5 times fast!) She also suggests the Missionary Crisp, a concoction of red delicious apples with a buttery cake-like layer, salted graham cracker and vanilla bean ice cream all smothered in house-made soft caramel. Wow. We’ve just taken a deep dive from tastin’ to all-out devouring,  but it’s the end of the night so enjoy! They also offer an intriguing cocktail menu to cap off your evening just right.

From a bachelorette party to a momcation to just finally picking a date and going for it, when you getaway to Savannah with your girls, you’re sure to taste, toast and talk your way through every moment. As the song says, “girls just wanna have fun” and if you can’t remember the last time you got together for that, then it’s high time to book your stay in Savannah! Cheers!
