I like to describe Savannah’s Starland District as the place where the picket fences are periwinkle. That visual alone should be enough to encourage a stroll through this neighborhood nestled between Downtown and Ardsley Park, but there’s so much more to this captivating community.
I’m extremely visual and always exploring with my camera, so I’ve created a brief photographic tour for you through some of my favorite spots in the Starland District.
I always stop at that periwinkle picket fence that beckons you to The Starland Cafe.
The Goat Bomb is a must-order: Thai tomato basil soup served with a generous dollop of goat cheese and toasted pita points for dipping. There’s plenty for sharing, but I won’t blame you if you don’t. Another favorite is the Green Goat sandwich, made with whipped herb goat cheese, green apple, onion confit, and honey, but you can’t go wrong with any of their creations. Sit out front to watch the locals come and go!
There are many other amazing dining options in the district. I’m especially fond of Bull Street Taco, where I highly recommend ordering the street corn!
After you’ve filled your belly, pop into the newest, and dare we say, coolest shop in Savannah, The Rat on Bull. A menswear-focused apparel and apothecary shop, they also carry neat finds for sister rats, like jewelry, candles, and bags.
If you plan your visit to Savannah and the Starland District just right, you may happen upon A First Friday Event.
First Fridays are the perfect chance to explore businesses that might ordinarily be closed during evening hours, or to meet artists who have their work on display in local galleries like Sulfur Studios. Not to be outdone, Saturday gets in the game with Second Saturday in Starland. Located on Desoto, this street fair atmosphere brings out booths of artists, craftsman, live music, and food vendors.
Put simply, the Starland District is easily walkable, pet friendly, and there is something for every age group. A prime example of this is Henny Penny Art Space & Cafe. Mom and Dad can grab an espresso and pastry while the kids color, create, or attend a special art workshop.
Whether you’re looking for shopping, dining, art, music, or just people watching, the Starland District has it all. Don’t let a visit to Savannah pass by without a stroll or bike ride through this colorful community.
