Savannah’s restaurant scene has been bustling for several years now, so it’s no surprise when new eateries seemingly pop up left and right across the Hostess City. Let’s take a look at some of the new restaurants that have captivated Savannahians and tourists alike.

    Flock to the Wok

Located on Whitaker Street between Broughton and Congress streets, Flock to the Wok is the newest offering from the Ele and the Chef Restaurant Collection group. Flock to the Wok serves up Chinese cuisine with a modern twist with classic dishes like Kung Pao chicken and the Wok fried rice. There are lots of choices available if you’re craving homemade dumplings as well as many innovative dishes suitable for vegetarians and carnivores alike. The restaurant features a massive bird cage that encompasses the main dining room area, and will soon also house a downstairs lounge.

    Big Bon Bodega

Bagel lovers unite! Big Bon Bodega, situated at 2011 Bull Street, is another eatery located in the ever-growing Starland District, bringing wood-fired bagels to Savannah. You can opt for a bagel sandwich like The 912 (includes bacon, a fried egg, cheddar, and herb butter) or The Donna (sliced turkey, watercress, avocado, bacon, and roasted garlic asiago mayo) – or you can choose a single bagel with several spread offerings like kimchi cream cheese, lemon caper cream cheese, and walnut butter. Big Bon Bodega also offers both cold and hot brew coffee.

    The Grey Market

Take a New York City bodega and fuse it with a classic Southern lunch counter, and the finished product is The Grey Market, the offspring of sorts of The Grey, Johno Morisano and Mashama Bailey’s critically acclaimed restaurant. Set at 109 Jefferson Street, The Grey Market offers breakfast and lunch options such as the lox bagel sandwich and sizzilin’ smoky pig. And, if you need a quick dinner idea, stop in after 4 p.m. and snag a hot rotisserie chicken.

    The 5 Spot on Broughton

You can find The 5 Spot on Broughton at the corner of Price and – you guessed it – Broughton streets. The 5 Spot on Broughton is the Gaslight Group’s second 5 Spot location; the first is in Habersham Village in Midtown Savannah. The restaurant bills itself as a casual neighborhood kitchen and bar, serving up burgers, sandwiches, salads, and more. Don’t miss out on the 5 Spot Nachos!

    Squirrel’s Pizza

You can never have enough pizza offerings as proven by Squirrel’s Pizza, located at 2218 Bull Street in the Starland District. Squirrel’s specializes in pecan wood-fired pizza, bringing a unique taste to Savannah. The pizzas are typically 10 to 12 inches, and include the classic pepperoni pie to a Benny Blanco, which is a white pizza topped with mozzarella, parmesan, and rosemary. Squirrel’s menu isn’t only pizzas, however. There are starters such as chicken wings and Calabrian chile sloppy joe sliders, as well as beef tenderloin and lamb shoulder sandwich offerings.

    The Fat Radish

The Fat Radish has just two locations in the country: New York City and now Savannah. This restaurant, located at 36 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, prides itself on its farm-to-table cuisine. The idea of using locally grown and produced food isn’t a new restaurant concept, but it’s typically a philosophy that is well-received by the community. Enjoy starters that include shaved summer squash, green harissa, shaved cheese, and more. For your main meal, there’s pastrami brined chicken schnitzel, grilled bavette steak – or, a bacon cheese burger with thick cut duck fat chips.

Don’t forget to note these new restaurants on your itinerary once you plan your stay in Savannah!
