Shell Bagging
Date: October 23, 2026
Time: 10 – 11:30am
Location: 30 Ocean Science Circle, Savannah, GA 31401
Description: Make a difference during Seafood Month by joining staff from our Shellfish Research Lab to bag recycled oyster shells that’ll be used to create new oyster reefs along our coast.
Returning oyster shells to our estuaries allows for new oysters to settle and grow, creating thriving reefs that provide habitat for a variety of organisms, including popular recreational and commercial fish species. Oyster reefs also help stabilize shorelines and improve water quality by filtering pollutants.
Please note: Shell bagging is a strenuous activity involving shoveling, repetitive bending down, and other physical activity. Volunteers must be 18 years or older to participate. Registration is required.
